Why I Chose to Start a Short-Term Rental Blog

I’m so glad you’ve landed here.
I started this blog for one reason: I believe in the power of short-term rentals to create freedom, flexibility, and financial growth. Whether you’re thinking about becoming a host or already running your own short term rental (like Airbnb or VRBO), I’m here to share real tools, honest lessons, and all the things I wish I knew earlier.
With a decade of experience owning and hosting short term rentals on Airbnb, I am also a licensed Realtor® with an eye for design. My aim is always 5-star guest experiences, and to help other owners and hosts start their STR journey, then optimize and thrive. (The photo above it an actual bedroom in my Airbnb!)
Why I Switched from Long-Term to Short-Term Rentals
When my husband and I purchased our home, our second goal — right after finding a place to live — was to create passive income. At first, like many homeowners, we assumed we’d rent out part of our space to a long-term tenant. But as we looked at the numbers, the decision became clear:
short-term rentals had a much higher income potential.
The idea of a “permanent” renter just didn’t feel right anymore. Not because it’s a bad model, but because it didn’t match our goals for flexibility, control, or earnings.
Running It Myself (Without a Big Team)
I also had another advantage: we live nearby.
That meant I could confidently handle the day-to-day operations myself, from cleanings and turnovers to guest communication, and my husband is a pro handyman. So I didn’t need to outsource or hire a property manager, and that gave me a much smoother (and more profitable) start.
I learned a lot, fast. From automating check-ins to choosing the right linens, furniture, and cleaning supplies, it’s a constant process of learning what works best. And now, I’m sharing it here.
