Why I Started a Short-Term Rental Blog

I’m so glad you’ve landed here.
I started this blog for one simple reason: I believe in the power of short-term rentals to create freedom, flexibility, and financial growth, and I want to help you attain those goals. Whether you’re thinking about becoming a host or already running your own Airbnb, I’m here to share real tools, honest lessons, and all the things I wish I knew earlier.
My husband and I have been hosting on Airbnb since 2016, right after renovating the 800 square foot, 1 bedroom/1 bathroom property. A little bit about us: husband KP is a full time handyman, and I, the wife KP, (yes, we are both KP!) am a few things…consultant and project manager for home renovations, and former stager and Realtor that dabbles in interior design. I like to think my expertise is high ROI home improvement that enhances both function and aesthetics. These things combined lead us to purchasing our first home and starting our Airbnb journey.
Why I Switched from Long-Term to Short-Term Rentals
When we purchased our home, our second goal — right after finding a place to live — was to create passive income. At first, like many homeowners, we assumed we’d rent out part of our space to a long-term tenant. But as we looked at the numbers, the decision became clear:
short-term rentals had a much higher income potential.
The idea of a “permanent” renter just didn’t feel right anymore. Not because it’s a bad model, but because it didn’t match our goals for flexibility, control, or earnings.
Running It Myself (Without a Big Team)
I also had another advantage: we live nearby.
That meant I could confidently handle the day-to-day operations myself, from cleanings and turnovers to guest communication. I didn’t need to outsource or hire a property manager, and that gave me a much smoother (and more profitable) start.
We learned a lot, fast. From automating check-ins to choosing the right linens, furniture, and cleaning supplies, it’s a constant process of learning what works best. And now, I’m sharing it here.
